Herding Details
We herding nuts are looking forward to this year's Herding Trial with much anticipation as we believe that it will be not only the largest Cardigan herding entry to date but an entry with much overall depth and quality. We expect a large Cardigan entry in the Saturday all-breed trials - which will be great for spectators as we will run in two arenas concurrently - but Sunday will be the day to celebrate our Cardigans and the beginning of Specialty 2006 week with a Cardigans-only trial. A special late picnic lunch (sign up will be on consolidated order form) is planned while we transition from the trial to instinct testing (details below).
The trial site is Ann Keller's farm, located about 80 miles south of the host hotel (I-75 south to exit 125, then 7 miles east on US 460 ). There is plenty of parking space and there is also plenty of room to take a long walk in the fields with your dog on this 100 acre farm!
We'll have both sheep and ducks for trial classes both days. Lori and Kent Herbel will judge the all breed trials. Jim Buzzard is slated for the Cardigan Trial on Sunday. The early opening date for Cardigan entries is Thursday, March 23, giving you two weeks to get your entries in before the trial is opened to all herding breeds.
Dana Hasemeier and Debbie Burnett have once again volunteered their expertise in evaluating each dog’s herding potential. We’ll have a limited number of spaces for herding instinct testing so don't be left out. More info on Instinct Testing is below.
Come see Cardigans doing the job they were bred to do, join us for a late lunch and stay on to watch (or participate in!) instinct testing of future Cardi herding stars.
Directions From the North:
Take I-75 south to Exit 126, Georgetown/Cynthiana/US 62; Turn right off the exit onto Cherry Blossom Way. Proceed 0.6 miles to US 460 (Wendy’s on the corner). Turn left onto US 460, proceed about 5 miles to a flashing yellow light. Go through the flashing yellow. The farm is 2.2 miles from this intersection. You will see the airport on the left. The farm lane is on the right just before the three house trailers. Come in past the trailers and follow signs to trial field.
Instinct Testing Details
Come join us Sunday afternoon in Georgetown, KY to watch the herding trials and then stay on after the trial to see if you might have a future herding star on your hands!
Limited CWCCA Herding Instinct Testing will be held at Rocking KW farm, 6251 Paris Pike, Georgetown KY on Sunday May 21, 2006 following the conclusion of the Cardigan-Only Herding Trial. Testing will be open to CWCCA members and their respective Cardigan Welsh Corgis.
Dana Hasemeier and Debby Burnett, both long-time Cardigan herding trainers and competitors, have generously volunteered their time as testers for this year’s event. The cost of each test is $25 per dog with a limit of 2 dogs per owner or household. If space is available, additional dogs may be signed up on a first-come, first-served basis on the day of the tests. A separate Herding Instinct Test Sign Up form is included below. A CWCCA club Instinct Certificate will be issued to each Cardigan demonstrating herding instinct.
The number of possible testing slots cannot be determined until after the close of herding trial entries on April 23, 2006. Once the trial closes, an estimate of available testing slots will be determined and allocated to sign-ups received on a first-come, first-served basis. Confirmations will be sent to those who received a slot; testing fees will be refunded to those who cannot be accommodated (note that there will be NO REFUNDS for confirmed slots who do not show up for their test). All dogs being tested should arrive before the end of the herding trial.
Some additional slots may become available the day of the trial. This may be determined by how quickly the trial moves during the day. So come down to Georgetown, enjoy the herding trial and see if a slot might be available.
If you wish to sign up your Cardigan for the Herding Instinct Test, please complete the Herding Instinct Test Sign Up Form and Waiver (download at top of page) and send it with a check payable to the CWCCA for your test payment to:

Herding Picnic
A late lunch (2:30 – 3:30) is planned for Sunday afternoon May 21st at the Herding Trial as we transition from the AKC Trial to our CWCCA Herding Instinct Testing. Lunch will include salad, entrée, side dish and desert. Price per person is $9. Please sign up in advance on the Consolidated Order Form.
Come watch our herding cardis show their stuff, join us for a lovely picnic lunch on the farm grounds, and then stay on to see the “herding wannabees” meet sheep for the first time. It’s always a fun event and often full of surprises.
